What price more food? Average food prices around the world have almost doubled since 2000, making it especially hard for people in poorer nations to meet even basic food needs. The problem has got so bad in 2008 that there have been food-based demonstrations in 30 countries so far. The basic reason food prices are rising so much is that demand is far outweighing supply. There are solutions to the crisis, including boosting crop yields, making crops more resistant to disease, and improving infrastructure so that farmers can transport their crops to markets and factories more easily
