Anticipated higher milk, bread prices hit Pilot Grove school

The Pilot Grove C-4 School Board held its monthly meeting Monday night discussing bread, milk and bus bids, setting the date for the 2008 tax rate hearing and the possibility of purchasing a new handicapped assessible bus.

The board decided to stay with Interstate Brand Corporation for its bread purchases. This year's bread costs have risen substantially from last year.

Along with the rise in bread costs, the price for milk has also increased. The board voted to keep Central Dairy Co. as the school's milk supplier. This year's price for a half pint of 1 percent white milk was bid at $.248 cents as compared to last year's $.142. These prices are valid only for the month of July. Central Dairy Co. holds a "milk escalator/ de-escalator pricing clause" in its contract which states that the prices of milk products will change at the beginning of every month due to the cost of raw milk prices set out by the USDA Federal Milk Market.
