The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled a specific brand of chocolate coins after fears it might be contaminated with melamine.
Test results for melamine conducted by the CFIA came back positive, which is why they are urging the public not to consume, distribute, or sell Sherwood Brands Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate Coins.
The affected product is described as:
Sherwood Brands Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate Coins Sold in 840 g containers, with 240 pieces per container UPC # 0 36077 112407 Lot code 1928S1 Consumers should be aware the product was sold to Costco stores across Canada and may have been sold in bulk packages or as individual pieces at dollar and bulk stores nationally.
Luckily, no illnesses have been reported with the consumption of these products.
Melamine is a chemical compound used in a number of commercial and industrial applications. Canada does not allow its use as a food ingredient.
