21Food Successfully Organize China Pavilion in Algeria Djazagro Expo - Exploring South Africa Food Market
The 7th international trade show DJAZAGRO in Algeria is held from May 18th to 21st 2009, in Algiers National Exhibition Centre ????ì?C Safex. Algeria is second only to South Africa in economy, with proportion 25% of total Africa importation value, being as one of the main agricultural and foods importing countries in Africa. The population of Algeria is over 3,000,000, and 95% are resident in Algiers. Since nineties, the grains harvested from Algeria itself is only enough for 30% of total domestic demands, so they have to yearly import 2,000 to 2,500 million dollars of grains and other foods from other countries. Algeria is one of the ten worldwide big importing countries on grain, milk, oil and sugar. Bread is the main food in Algeria, so Algerian bread & deserts manufacturers are unceasingly looking for new equipments, raw materials and food additives.
Algeria Djazagro started in 2003, organized by the biggest exhibition company in France- Comexposium, who also has hosted SAIL series of expo. Algeria Djazagro is held annually since then. Because of its specialty on foods and global influence, DJAZAGRO trade show confirmed its position as "The Most Well Deserved Recommendation Expo" on food industry in Algeria and other Maghrebian areas.
In this expo, besides the 2 main parts on Agricultural foods and Bakery/ Pastry/ Restaurants Industries, DJAZAGRO brings in a new section: LAB FORUM, which was devoted to laboratory professionals, for their products and foods analysis equipments presenting. With DJAZAGRO strengthening its dimension of international trade events, this time DJAZAGRO regrouped 352 direct exhibitors representing over 415 trademarks that come from 19 countries. The international exhibitors are from Algeria, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, etc, amounting to 80% in proportion. DJAZAGRO 2009 took place on the total area of the Central Pavilion (Safex exbibition park) covering 12,000 square meters; which increases by 22% in comparison with 2008. DJAZAGRO 2009 welcomed 9,273 visitors, which increases by 3.7 % compared with 2008. Exhibitors were very satisfied by their visitors' profiles and by their high interests in their technologies. It is to well noticed that more and more visitors are from other Algerian Provinces out of Algiers. The exhibition is divided into two areas: food area and bakery/ pastry area. Especially in the bakery area, demonstrations on stands were very particular and eye-catching, which was very pleasant for the visitors that could discover and test high-quality products and realizations there.

The China pavilion that is organized by 21Food for the first time amounts to 18 companies, with exhibition area of 200 square meters. Among these companies, there are 3 on tea, 2 on fruits and agricultural products, 2 on food machinery, 1 on milk powder, and all others are on fruits, canned vegetables, tomato, or other canned foods. It is known that the tea, canned foods, fruits, vegetables, bakery machineries, beverage machineries that come from China pavilion are well welcomed by buyers.

There are several tea-manufacturing companies from Anhui and Zhejiang among China pavilion, they are very busy on receiving visitors during exhibition time, while after exhibition, they still have to stay Algeria to visit some clients. It proves that the teas produced from China are welcomed in such an extent and no doubt is fast seller. The tomato paste exhibitor coming from Xinjiang even receives about 40 buyers only in the middle two days. The beverage exhibitor coming from Guangdong receives one agent in the first day, and this agent finds for him 5 big terminal buyers in the last two days. The fruits and agricultural products manufacture coming from Shandong receives more than 30 buyers o inquiring only in the first two days, because their fruits are rather favored by buyers, while in Algeria, fresh fruits all depend on importing. All of these exhibitors express that they get what expected, and will come again next year.

At May 19th night, 21Food guide China pavilion to visit the local famous supermarket UNO, in order to know the local market information in Algeria.
Beverage: Fruit juices and teas are the main ones. Fruit juice price is about 30-80DA/2L; fruit flavored tea price is about 185DA/20 bags, main import from Sri Lanka. 21Food staff noticed that the shelf life of these tea drinks last only until June of 2009, because the duration of importation processing takes too long time.
Snack Foods: They prefer sweet tastes. Confectionaries are mainly imported from Italy and England, and chocolate are mostly imported from Germany and Switzerland. Germany chocolate price is about 190DA; while Switzerland chocolate is about 590DA.
Canned Foods: Mainly are canned vegetables, canned fish, canned mushrooms, and canned chickpeas. Among these canned foods, the canned corns are mainly imported from France, price is about 110DA.
Spices: Mainly about tomato paste, either local or import from Spain and Italy.
Fuits & Vegetables: Local fruits mainly are pears, loquats, watermelons, etc. but the size is much smaller compared with China, price is within 280-410DA/KG; American apples price is 175DA/KG; Fresh vegetables all come from its own country, for example, tomato, carrots, etc. but the size is also much smaller.
The 7th edition of the international trade show DJAZAGRO closed its door on May 21st in a dynamic business climate. 21Food also fulfilled its commission of organizing China pavilion to explore the North Africa market. The attended exhibitors and visitors are well expressed by China pavilion image and Chinese foods. COEXPOSIUM, the organizer of Djazagro, have organized in France various famous fairs such as "Salon International de I'Agriculture", SIMA, SITEVI and SIAL - all worldwide leading events. And for 2010, in order to cooperate with French and Algerian Partners for further COMEXPOSIUM is planning to organize another Expo based on DJAZAGRO, that would concern all the branches of the Agro-food industry. This expo that would be held in April 2010 in the Safex Exhibition Park of Algeria would be regrouping the following elements: DJAZAGRO Trade Show, SIMA ALGERIE (Equipments for agriculture) and FOOD ALGERIE (Food stuff and consumption products).
