Anuga is acting as he most important trade show for the trade and food service/catering market, and enjoys high regard and acceptance from exhibitors and visitors worldwide. A lot of trade fairs have a lot to offer, but only one fair has it all: Anuga. Anuga was held from 10th to 14th October 2009, attended by 6,522 companies from 97 countries, occupying a gross exhibition space of 287,000 m². The total number of exhibitors included 888 exhibitors and 130 additionally represented companies from Germany and 5,307 exhibitors and 197 additionally represented companies from abroad. A total of 84 per cent of the exhibitors came from abroad. About 153,500 trade visitors from 180 countries attended Anuga 2009, including more than 61 per cent from abroad.

The 30th Anuga generated high-powered market momentum for the food industry in Germany and abroad. "Anuga clearly demonstrated its leading role as a central trade hub and information platform for the international food industry," said Gerald Bose, Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH. "The outstanding quality of the trade fair resulted in a great atmosphere and excellent business. Against the background of a difficult overall economic situation, the market-oriented trade fair concept of Anuga once again impressed everyone involved.

In addition, the sector enhanced its image by focusing on the topics of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. Moreover, the supporting programme strongly highlighted future-oriented issues. Anuga 2009 was officially opened by EU Vice President Gunter Verheugen in the presence of numerous prominent guests from the realms of politics and business. Turkey, the partner country of this year's Anuga, successfully presented all the facets of its high-powered capabilities in the food sector.

Top quality trade visitors
The quality of the trade visitors increased once again. Nearly 70 per cent of visitors are decision-makers with regard to purchasing or as being involved in purchasing and procurement decisions within their companies. An additional 18 per cent played an advisory role in purchasing decisions.

Visitor turnout from the Middle East was particularly high, having increased by more than 30 per cent. The number of buyers from Asia rose by about ten per cent. A larger number of visitors also came to Anuga in Cologne from Africa, with attendance figures increasing by over 20 per cent. The number of visitors from the USA and Canada rose slightly.

In addition to the nations that are traditionally big exporters, smaller countries such as Bahrain, Burundi and Suriname also participated, in some cases with only one or two companies taking advantage of the opportunity offered by Anuga in Cologne to acquire trading partners. The Dubai Export Development Corporation (EDC), for example, a first-time organizer of a joint stand at Anuga, was very satisfied. The participants succeeded in making new contacts and strengthening their relationships with important buyers, confirmed a producer of herbs and spices. "We even meet customers from Saudi Arabia here, but also from many other regions around the world," reports Martin van Almsick, General Manager of Al Nassma Chocolate LLC, a company that makes chocolate from camel milk.

10 specialized trade fairs under one roof
All ten Anuga trade fairs featured a strong field of participants from Germany and abroad who offered ideal information and ordering conditions for buyers from the trade and the food service sector. Most exhibitors were therefore very satisfied with the trade fair. Many exhibitors reported that they had concluded contracts, and it was frequently mentioned that order books were full.
