This year Jingold have introduced two new Italian kiwis: the typical yellow kiwi from the consortium KiwiGold and the new line of green kiwis, which are produced in Italy as well as in other countries.
Our colleagues at FreshPlaza Italy interviewed Director of the consortium Alessandro Formari. "The sales peak of our yellow kiwis begins in January, when the competition from overseas kiwis is smaller. We are supplying green kiwis for the first time this year. The competition is strong, mostly from countries like Greece, where investment in storage techniques has made the season for supplying longer, but with competitive prices." said Fornari.
80% of the turnover of Jingold yellow kiwis found its way across Europe in November and December. That is an increase compared to the same period last year. The consortium is pleased with the prices and the volumes shipped abroad to destinations such as Asia. "New markets are imperative, even though they bring with them more bureaucratic difficulties and phyosanitary controls. They are new experiences which we are very positive about", according to Fornari.
At the moment the firsts containers of Jingold kiwis are being shipped. Other destinations are Taiwan and the US. "Overseas markets are more lucrative for us, with double or triple prices for yellow kiwis compared to green" concludes Fornari.
