Multivac will once again be showcasing its expertise in complete and sustainable packaging solutions at Freshconex, which will take place from February 3 to 5, 2010, at the Berlin exhibition grounds. Along with the innovative FreshSafe concept, which keeps fruit and vegetables fresh for much longer in comparison to open packaging, the company will be presenting an award-winning integrated packaging solution developed in association with a number of partners from retail and industry. In addition, a wide selection of Multivac packaging machines will be on display at the stand.
For the fruit and vegetable trade, the quality of the packaging solution used represents cold, hard cash. Extending the shelf life by just three to four days, which can be achieved with an innovative packaging solution, prevents large amounts of fruit from spoiling during transportation and handling.
The FreshSafe concept from Multivac is just such a solution. It can be implemented with both thermoformed packs and tray packs. A special perforation module for Multivac traysealers and thermoformers makes microscopically small perforations in the upper web - a conventional plastic film - just before the package is sealed. The number and arrangement of the holes can be varied quickly and easily. The atmospheric mixture in the packaging and the variability in the microperforations gives the system the flexibility to adapt to a variety of products and requirements.
Award-winning tray packaging solution
Another highlight is an award-winning tray packaging solution for the convenience sector, which is produced on the T 700 traysealer. This packaging solution has already received the Swiss Star Award 2009.
For this solution an MR313 conveyor belt labeler from MR is added to the T 700 traysealer to label the sealed trays. This labeler can apply paper or film labels to a wide variety of packaging shapes and materials, from above or from the side.
The T 250 traysealer and the R 145 thermoformer will be on show at Freshconex as examples of packaging machines for small and medium batches. Both models include a perforating unit for the production of tray packs or thermoformed packs utilizing the FreshSafe concept.
Last but not least, Multivac will also be presenting the large-format C 400 single-chamber machine, which can be used to pack fruit and vegetables into pouches quickly and reliably, with no changeover delay. The high sealing pressure means that the C 400 achieves outstanding packaging results, even with impurities or creases in the pouch material.
