The British tomato company John Baarda will not become a member of The Greenery.
It was previously made known that Baarda products would be sold by The Greenery. The Greenery has said that the contract has not yet been signed. A spokesman said, "We will not comment as long as the books are being audited." It remains unclear why Baarda will not be a foreign member. The policy for foreign membership remains unchanged in the restructuring which the sales company is currently under going.
It does not mean, according to the spokesman, that The Greenery will takeover Baarda.
It is already known that the agreement with HSBC will give Baarda a capital injection to finish the expansion of the modern complex near Billingham. Baarda grows tomatoes using CO2 and heat from neighbouring industry. According to British sources Baarda is just as important to The Greenery as Thanet Earth is to FresQ. British supermarket chains want to partly fill their volumes with British products.
