This week the first Satsumas from Peru will arrive at Citronas. "The season started two to three weeks earlier" Bert van Gelder says. "In addition to favourable growing conditions our producer also had better possibilities to harvest earlier with local growers. Also the packing possibilities of our present supplier Corporaci?§?n Frut?§acola de Chincha S.A.C. have been greatly extended. "Citronas expect larger volumes this season than previous years." The Satsuma season from Peru runs till the end of May.
The expectations for the coming season are positive. "The quality of the Satsumas is much better than during previous years and can easily compete with the mandarins of traditional origin. Also Peru can still produce at reasonably low prices" as per Bert. He expects this to become an interesting product. The Peruvian Satsuma has a fresh taste and together with a good presentation the price of this popular product will be better this season." The Peruvian Satsumas of Citronas are traded under the, in the meantime, renowned trade name Frunchincha.
