It's been a pretty quick harvest for some pistachio growers in southern NSW.
Heavy rains last weekend in the Riverina forced Dennis Lambert to pick as much as he could in four days before the water could damage the nuts.
He says rain is always welcome, but in this case it came just at the wrong time.
"We were meant to start Sunday week ago and we got 112 millimetres of rain on the Sunday and 148 millimetres over the weekend, which was just gorgeous rain, but anything that was absolutely ripe, the outer hull started to fray and go black," he says.
"So we had to get in and harvest quickly, because as it goes black, it would stain the nuts."
