The consummation of a merger that had been in the works for several months, the GMA/FPA was created Jan. 1 with the combination of the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the Food Products Association.

"Although our name has changed, our steadfast commitment to excellence remains, and the association now boasts an impressive portfolio of services to better serve our companies," said Cal Dooley, president and chief executive officer.

Mr. Dooley said a new web site will be built "that reflects the mission and goals" of the new organization and that will serve as an information clearinghouse for consumer packaged goods companies, policymakers, consumers and the media.

In the interim, the G.M.A. and F.P.A. web sites will continue to be operated as before. The web sites are www.fpa-food.org/index.asp and www.gmabrands.com/index.cfm.
