Ministry of Agriculture warns the public: Do not feed your dogs raw food manufactured by Bio Dog, bearing the manufacture date of 12/11/2015 (of the Beef variety) and bearing the manufacture date of 19/11/2015 (of the Chicken variety)

Customers who have purchased these products are requested to contact Bio Dog and not to serve them to their pet.

The warning is the result of laboratory tests performed as a part of the Ministry of Agriculture?ˉs routine supervisory work, which produced exceptional findings of microbiological contaminants.

As a part of the routine supervisory work of the animal food supervisory department in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, routine laboratory tests found exceptional levels of microbiological contaminants in raw dog food manufactured by Bio Dog - levels higher than the standard permitted by the Ministry. Due to these findings, the Ministry of Agriculture ruled the food unfit for sale and the company is required to perform a recall and notify the public.

The products which the manufacturer is required to recall are raw dog food, bearing the manufacture date of 12/11/2015 (of the Beef variety) and bearing the manufacture date of 19/11/2015 (of the Chicken variety). The contaminants that were found in the above food are salmonella and Enterobacteriaceae at irregular levels which may pose a threat to animals, and therefore it may pose a problem to family members who may contract them from the family dog.
The risk in contaminants among adult animals is of diarrhea, vomiting and exacerbation of chronic medical conditions. Young animals or animals suffering from a suppressed immune system, may suffer dehydration and may even die.
The two bacteria may also infect humans and cause the same symptoms as in dogs.

By law, the importation and manufacture of animal food, including pet food, requires obtaining a permit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, after an inspection by the animal food supervisory department at the veterinary services of the Ministry of Agriculture. The inspection process includes verification that the food is manufactured under adequate manufacturing conditions, that there is control over the raw materials being used for the preparation of the food and an inspection of the raw materials and the final food product for the presence of various contaminants such as: pesticide residues, toxins and microbiological contaminants.
A manufacturer who has complied with the legal requirements is granted a permit to manufacture and market animal food and is required to label the product with aHebrew label, which includes the name of the manufacturer/importer; the product ingredients; the animal species for which the food is intended; whether this is a whole food / supplementary food / snack; expiry date of the food and the permit number from the animal food supervisory department in the Ministry of Agriculture.
