The Ricegrowers?ˉ Association of Australia today expressed concern that DPI Water isn?ˉt communicating well enough on sensitive water market issues.
President Jeremy Morton claimed that the recent inter-valley trade opening between the Murray and Murrumbidgee was a clear example of DPI Water?ˉs failure to understand the consequences of poor information.
?°The explanation DPI Water gave for the re-opening of trade from the Murrumbidgee to the Murray was inadequate. There was only a vague reference to the basis for trade re-opening, which has left irrigators uncertain as to the types of situations that will create a re-opening again in future."

?°Everyone knew the temporary market price difference in the two valleys, and could have predicted there would be a rush of water out of the Murrumbidgee and into the Murray, leading to an almost immediate close of trade again. These announcements have large, abrupt effects on water markets and need to be explained better?± said Mr Morton.
