| The longan (Dimocarpus longan), also known as dragon''''s eye or eyeball, is native to southern China. The drupaceous fruit are spherical to ovoid. The peel is tan or light brown, leathery and smoother than that of the lychee. The pulp is whitish and translucent. It does not adhere to the seed and is flavorful and sweet. The longan has long been considered as a valuable invigorant and is also called Yizhi meaning good for the brain by Chinese. The fruit is nutritious, with 3.95% protein, 20% sugar and an amount of vitamin A and vitamin B. It contains 13 milligrams of calcium, 26 milligrams of phosphor, 0.4 milligrams of iron and 68.7-144.8 milligrams of vitamin C in every 100 grams of its flesh |
