Every producer recommends the extraordinary quality of their products. Advertisements make you believe that inferior quality has been wiped out. It seems that quality is really nothing special any more. But often a bad feeling creeps upon us when we read the small print on the labels of our food. Then we really can think that many ingredients mentioned there have nothing in common with food. It cannot be denied: this fact does not support our health. So we can ask ourselves, what good quality means if we talk about food, and it might be even more important to ask, what good quality should mean to us. Our definition is a simple one: a good product is healthy, tasty and good for one's well-being. Fortu-nately, we can say that nature adjusts the quality of its fruits to the needs of our body in a nearly perfect way.
So, the development of food industry in the last couple of decades seems all the more disastrous, because much has been done to eliminate the health-keeping forces of genuine nature from our food, and on top of that, food has been mistreated with substances, that have nothing to do with our organism. Is this really the only way to produce enough quantity at a fair price? Should we really accept the continuous negative effect on our health and the progressive degeneration of our basics? This sounds paradoxical.
We think that the time has come to change policy. In our opinion quality should no longer be a rare phenomenon that only a few people can afford. Quality should be a standard. Utopia? Perhaps today, but step by step, a practicable course will be revealed. The scientific deve-lop-ments in ecology show what we should aim at. It is up to us to make sure that we make our contribution. |
