SAN BIAGIO PIEDMONT
The wine estate stands on the slopes of the San Biagio hill in La Morra, one of the eleven villages forming the only area in the world where Barolo wine can be produced. The farm stretches out over 18 hectares (45 acres), and has belonged to the Roggero family for generations. Surrounded by splendid vineyards, it enjoys a spectacular panorama opening out onto the Langhe, a range of hills packed with history and castles. Old documents preserved in the village archives show that San Biagio hill was known of as far back as the Middle Ages. Indeed, the term Sancte Blaxius appears in a 1477 entry in the local land registry, when a Benedictine monastery (San Biagio Priory, 1050 AD) used to grow vines here. All the estate vineyards are part of the Great Vineyards of Barolo within the Commune of La Morra: with resolution no. 21 of 15 April 1994, the village council established the boundaries of the area recognized as being prime sites for the growing of the Nebbiolo variety used to produce Barolo wine. The family-run business is coordinated by the company`s owner Giovanni, while agrotechnician Davide is responsible for looking after the vineyards, and winemaker Gianluca handles the vinification, giving the wines their inimitable style.
Out of an old family tradition, Giuseppe La Marca cultivated already in 1938, in the hills of his town Delia in the south of Sicily, his own wines.
The love for the grapes and the resulting wines were later devolved to his son Luciano La Marca. Luciano`s openness and curiosity to carry the Italian wine culture beyond the Italian borders have been his passionate drive to establish numerous relation ship with Italian`s leading wineries that have persistence till to day. In the course of this passion, Luciano assigned the cultivation of the family-owned vineyards to the winegrowers of the region and dedicated himself to the distribution of the wines of those wineries that till today work according to old traditions and workmanships.
Today, in third generation, his daughter Sandra La Marca, together with her husband has dedicated themselves to the international distribution. After completing her university degree in Milan, she has made the continuation of the family tradition her target, offering over 70 years family experience for characteristic wines exclusively to Asia.To all those who are enthusiastic and attracted to the unique Italian wine culture.
