Back in 1982 the Visini brothers, owners of a fruit farm in the heart of the Alps, had an abundant crop of blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. They hit on the idea of extending their traditional activity of selling fresh fruit to making preserves out of their genuine produce.
A fundamental role in the development of this project was played by international experts who supplied the necessary know-how and the then innovative idea of using a high percentage of real fruit with a low sugar content.
So the first range of Vis jams was launched: the "65% fruit range" featuring blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, apricot and strawberry preserves.
Transforming fruit into jam required the building of a small factory, which was specially designed to be in harmony with the surrounding Alpine landscape.
Over the years, the quality and excellence of Vis jams made such an inroad into the Italian and foreign market that the initial plant (about 500 square metres) was no longer sufficient to meet increasing demand.
It became necessary to enlarge the production plant and improve equipment. This was done first in 1994 and again in 2004, expanding the production and storage areas so that Vis can now make 28,000 jars of preserves a day.
Encouraged by its success, the company widened its production range, adding, besides new flavours every year, a new range of wild berries jams (70% fruit) and another using fruit from organic farms.
The know-how acquired over the years was extended to other fruit-based products, including buckwheat flour tarts, "bisciola" (a typical Valtellina cake rich in dried fruit), fruit in syrup, fruit in grappa and "mostarda" (a spicy fruit pickle).
The care and the attention in offering a high-quality product have remained the hallmark of the company over the years, building up such appreciation and confidence in the consumer that Vis is now distributed by the main Italian and foreign retailers and competes with the most important players in this sector.
