We have the cassostria gigas specie and we grow our oysters on long lines inside our famous Langebaan lagoon. One of the key factors why our oysters are so successful is the fact that we have very high quality water which is constantly fed from the open sea into the lagoon every 12 hours at the changing of the tide. To ad to this we are privilege that these waters are famous for being plankton enriched and every year the whales also come and give birth here.
Our greatest advantage in this lagoon is that our oysters grow in a record time of 6 to 8 months to the mature size of 60g per oyster. This is a very unique growth rate. Whereas commonly in many countries oysters are known to grow for at least 24 months.
At any given time we have approximately 5 million oysters in various stages of growing out and our target is to have 10 million within the next 8 months.
