Spring arrived with lower than average temperatures and scarce brightness, resulting in a rather late budding and shooting. Summer was dry and very hot, especially in January. Temperature decreased at the end of February, with cooler nights and a few cloudy days once again slowing down the ripening process. Exceptionally warm and sunny weather took hold the last week of March and first two weeks of April, enabling a complete and optimal ripening process prior to harvest. These climatic conditions, combined with lower yields, generated an exceptional vintage in 2003 with outstanding levels of quality.
