(Dates, Barhi string)  These are two strings of barhi dates that have not fully ripened.  In this (khalaal) stage they are a Middle Eastern delicacy.  They are sweet and crunchy, with a slight astringent after taste.  Some of the dates in the photo are beginning to ripen into the next stage.  Each date contains a single short, fat seed. We have not seen them sold in stores.  These veganically grown dates were ordered directly from the grower, The Date People, P. O.
