1 Piperine is a kind of alkaloid extracted from pepper fruit. High-purity piperine is needle-shaped or short rod-shaped light yellow or white crystal powder. Resent medical studies have shown piperine to be very helpful in increasing the absorption of certain vitamins such as Selenium, Vitamin B and Beta-Carotene.

2 Piperine is the alkaloid responsible for the pungency of black pepper and long pepper, along with chavicine . It has also been used in some forms of traditional medicine and as an insecticide. Piperine forms monoclinic needles, is slightly soluble in water and more so in Alcohol or chloroform.
