Groundnuts in India are available throughout the year due to two-crop cycle harvested in March and October. India produces around 7 million tonnes of groundnuts (unshelled) every year.

Peanuts are more susceptible to mold and fungal invasions as compared to other nuts. One of the common concern is aflatoxin , a poison produced by a fungus called Aspergillus flavus .
