Ulmer Schokoladen ("Ulmer Chocolates") was founded in 1859 in Berlin under the Name of "Werckmeister & Retzdorff"
Georg Justus Ulmer bought the renown company in 1908, having been managing director for 4 years already. 1924, his son Herbert joined him in the company.
During World War II, the factory in Berlin was completely destroyed. In 1950, Herbert Ulmer decided to rebuild production facilities in Wilhelmshaven. In 1964, Herbert's son Michael, chocolate maker by profession, joined the company and focused on the production of the since 1962 offered "special products" "flakes"and "shavings".
In 1972, the existing buildings had become too small, so Michael aquired new premises of 7.000 sqm and built all new production facilities. In 1976, the company was renamed in "Ulmer Schokoladen". In 1987, another production hall and a representative administration building were put up. To keep up with the upward trend, several properties in the direct neighbourhood, including a warehouse complex, were aquired. In 2005, another hall with 2.250 sqm
for production and logistics is built.
Ulmer offers a wide range of chocolate decoration products in german retail. With the rich in tradition shavings, Ulmer is market leader in Germany. Another main focus lies on business with the processing industry like industrial bakeries, ice cream manufacturers, frozen pastry makers and cereal manufacturers all over the world. Currently, Ulmer is exporting in more than 25 countries, even Japan and Taiwan among them.
