Sri Lankan Nutmeg and Mace are the dried products of the same tree, Myristica Fragrans Houtt. It is largely cultivated in the central province of Sri Lanka .
DEFINITIONS:
NUTMEG: The mature dried seeds of Myristica Fragrans Houtt, Shelled and unshelled.
MACE: The mature dried Aril of Myristica Fragrans Houtt, in pieces irregular in shape and size.
GRADES:
Nutmeg Unshelled: Grade 1, Grade 2 (FAQ), and BWP (Broken Wormy Punky)
Nutmeg Shelled: Standard Quality
Mace: Grade 1 (special) and Grade 2 (FAQ)
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Nutmeg shall have an Aromatic Odour and Taste, shall be practically free from mould and infestation.
Mace: Shall have an Aromatic Odour and taste, shall range from Pale Yellow to Reddish Brown in color, free from mould and infestation.
