ABOUT US

BabySteps™ proudly deliver a range of products that are developed and manufactured in New Zealand specifically for the New Zealand market.

The BabySteps™ brand is owned by parent company New Image Group, a 100% New Zealand company that has been manufacturing and distributing natural supplements and food products since 1984.

New Image is fast becoming a market leader in the development and manufacture of dairy based nutritional products. As a reflection of this focus, in 2011 New Image built a state of the art spray drying dairy plant, specially designed for the powder production of specialised colostrum and milk materials for use in nutritional formulations, such as the BabySteps™ Infant, Follow-on and Growing Up formulas.

New Image believe it is important to form strong relationships with our suppliers, which is why we have an exclusive agreement with a trusted New Zealand dairy goat milk supplier.

Having trusted suppliers and our own specialised spray drying plant gives New Image the ability to control the production and supply of major ingredients so that as a group we can complete all steps in the delivery of nutritional powders, providing the highest level of quality and efficiency for our consumers.

FAQs

What are ARA and DHA and why are they in BabySteps™ products?
ARA (arachidonic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are fats that are naturally found in mother’s breast milk. Infants depend on these fats for healthy development as they contribute to brain development, healthy cognitive function, development of the visual system and normal eyesight as well as balanced mood, learning and behaviour. They also contribute to the development of a healthy and responsive immune system.

How is goat’s milk different from cow’s milk?
The naturally occurring fat in goat’s milk does not contain the particle agglutinin, this makes the fat globules disperse more compared to cow’s milk, and therefore easier to digest. Goat’s milk also contains slightly less lactose than cow’s milk and has a protein profile that more closely resembles human milk. Many people that are sensitive to cow’s milk find goat’s milk is more tolerable for them.

What is wet blend technology?
Powdered food products can be manufactured using either wet blend or dry blend techniques. Dry blending mixes all the dry ingredients together before canning. Wet blending mixes all of the ingredients into a solution before then spray drying. The benefit of wet blend and spray dry technology is that this enhances standardisation by homogenising (blending to a uniform consistency) the formula which ensures that each serving contains the same uniform blend of nutrients.

My infant is lactose intolerant; can they still have goat’s milk?
Goat’s milk naturally contains lactose. The BabySteps™ Infant, Follow-On and Growing-Up formulas all contain lactose so if your baby is intolerant to lactose then these products may not be suitable. We advise discussing this with your health care provider before trying these products.

Why is goat’s milk recommended for infants with digestive problems?
The lack of agglutinin, high amount of medium chain fatty acids and smaller fat particles in goat’s milk mean that it is naturally homogenised and is easy for the body to process, helping to support digestive comfort.
