Caravanes Ltd was founded in 1988 by dr Riad Naboulsi, who is a heart surgeon in our country, in order to help the Hungarian cheese get into the Arabic world through his businessmen friends living in Lebanon. The modern descendants of the Phoenicians have developed this company with hard work and even more perseverance one of the biggest Hungarian cheese exporters. The background of this is the capacity of milk production of the about 100 million litre of milk a year.
Korostej Ltd, as the production establishment of the company, and also as one of the first privatized Hungarian cheese factories was passed into the company's ownership in 1992. In spite of the adverse circumstances, the factory, which was operated in Nagykőrös at that time, soon became one of the front-rank exporter companies by delivering thousands tons of cheese mainly to the Arabic markets.
Changing external and internal circumstances and expectations made it clear very soon that improvements need to take place within a short while along with the conditions appointed by the European Union. For this reason the factory in Korostetetlen was bought in 2000.
The main profile of the company is the production and exportation of cheese types like Kashkaval-Hajdu, Halloum, Trappist, Edam and Creamwhite. Lorries and containers are loaded up daily, mainly to Arabic destinations. The Hungarian cheese types are taken to almost every Arabic country. Customers come from countries like Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, the Arabic Emirates, Yemen and Iraq.
