Riboflavin, (also known as Vitamin B2), is a water-soluble essential micronutrient that is a vital to the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Riboflavin is a central component of the cofactors FAD and FMN, and is therefore required for the synthesis of all flavoproteins in the body. Flavoproteins play important roles in important roles in the electron transport chain and fatty acid oxidation. In these ways, dietary riboflavin supports healthy energy production in the body.
