canned tuna Fish in Vegetable oil
A passion for the sea has always been a symbol and brand of the Portuguese people. This passion was born, for over a century, canning.
The tradition dates back to the late nineteenth century, in Vila Real de Santo António, when men were overboard and brought fish to be stored and consumed later, especially in the toughest times of winter. After World War II, was the decisive increase in the canning industry. Tuna and sardines canned foods are now underway in the Portuguese diet.
The Cofaco born in 1961 in Algarve, based in Vila Real de Santo António. Earlier this decade, the result of the shortage of tuna in Algarve seas, the Cofaco moves to the Azores, privileged place of passage of tuna in their migration routes across oceans.
Today is a uniquely Azorean company, reaching its industrial centers in the islands of Pico (Pico Madalena) and St. Michael (Fishtail).
