Tee Yih Jia began as a labour intensive and semi mechanised spring roll factory in 1969. In 1975, total annual turnover was only about S$300,000. Its profit margin was far from encouraging and prospects for improvement were bleak since its market was mainly domestic.
In 1977, the company was acquired by Mr Goi Seng Hui, an enterprising young man. Under his strong visionary leadership, annual turnover increased four-fold within 3years. By 1982, the manufacturing process was fully automated. Stringent quality control was implemented and was eventually computerised to ensure consistent high standards.
