Star Ruby was developed in Texas and it is the most deeply pigmented grapefruit variety yet developed. The blushed external rind is smooth and fine.
Star Ruby is almost always seedless and very rarely has only one or two seeds in a minority of fruit. The rind is thin and the flesh has a very high juice content. It is sweeter than Marsh and other pigmented varieties. Recent plantings of Star Ruby in the Summer citrus region of South Africa will come into production during the next three to four years.
