H.S. 0713.39.90.00) Dry bean (Vigna Sinensis) is an American plant originally from Mexico, Central America, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. The species Phaseolus vulgaris L. has several names in Spanish-speaking countries: frijol, frol, frisol, frol, frejol, poroto, habichuela, habilla, caraota, jud, alubia, and chuwi. The most widespread term is "frijol", which is used from Mexico to Panama, in Cuba, and in part of Peru. In Colombia it is known as "frol" and in the Antioquia region as "frisol". In Ecuador, it is called "frol", and in many regions of Peru, Bolivia, and Chile it is usually referred to as "frejol". The term "poroto", derived from Quechuan "purutu", is common in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Bolivia. In Peru, the term "poroto" is used in many cases associated with certain variety names. In the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, the species Phaseolus vulgaris is called "habichuela". In Spain, the Arab word "Al loubia", which designates Vigna unguiculata, is used as "alubia" to refer to common beans. There are many dry beans varieties of all colours: white, black, deep black, bay, red, yellow, speckled, grey, etc. The most used is the Cowpea, which has the highest export volume as dry bean. The right time for harvesting is when the plants have a typical brown colour, and the pods are dry but not brittle. Plants are cut making heaps and let dry in the field for 4 or 7 more days, until they get completely dried. Threshing is carried out by the tractor of rim that hits the sheaves that spread out around the heap or threshing floor, then a parva is done and the wind action is used to separate the undesirable bean elements. The gathering of the plants must be done preferably early in the morning, to avoid pod's dehiscence. Storage begins from physiologic ripeness in field, special care must be taken during this period against pod and grain drilling worms, and grubs for a long time of stay in the field before the harvest. Grains must be stored with a humidity content of 13 to 14%, in clean disinfected vessels, with adequate ventilation and fresh in piled up sacks over a wooden pallet which allow easy handling. The dry bean is a high lysine content pulse, an essential amino acid scarce among cereals. Dry beans have less than 2% fat and on the contrary they are rich in carbohydrates, that is about 60%. Protein consists of 90% water insoluble globulin and 10% water-soluble albumin. Dry bean has three times more protein than cereals and its importance lies in methionine, an amino acid that is generally absent in other pulses. Dry beans and other pulses are rich in total protein (20-25%) and consequently they help in human nutrition based on pulse grains and other feculent crops. They act as substitutes of animal and fish protein. 2. Furthermore specifications: Packaging material is a polyethylene bag.
