What is STEVIA?
stevia is a perennial shrub that grows up to 1m tall and has leaves 2-3 cm long. It belongs to
the Aster family, which is indigenous to the northern regions of South America. It is estimated
that as many as 200 species of Stevia are native to South Ameriac; S. rebaudiana is grown
commercially in many parts of Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay,, Isreal, Thailand and China.
Stevia has been used to sweeten the traditional drink mate for 400 years or longer,
Stevioside, 6-8% composing of the stevia leaf, is also the most prevalent glycoside in the leaf
and has been tested to be approximately 300 times sweeter than sugar. Other sweet constituents
include steviolbiioside, rebausiosides A-E, and dulcoside A.
At present, as a Natural sweetener stevioside product has been used in the country such as
Korea, Japan, China, Latin America(Brazil, Paraguay), Taiwan, Indonesia, Russiam Australia,
USA(Dietary Supplement) and other countries.
